Amber Heard Confirmed to Remain in Aquaman 2 Despite Reports of Being Cut in the Film

As a result of Johnny Depp’s win in his defamation case against Amber Heard in a trial that dominated the news cycle in the past several weeks, there are now questions about the Aquaman star’s future in the DCEU and whether she will remain in the sequel. Yesterday, there are reports that the actress has been cut out of the film. However, as it turns out, that is actually not the case.

Variety has confirmed from their source that Heard has not been cut from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. A spokesperson of the actress also released a statement regarding the report where they said, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane.”

There have been questions about the future of Heard’s career and involvement as Mera in the DCEU in the past few weeks as a result of the heavily-publicized trial and the verdict that she ended up losing as she was ordered to pay Depp 10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. Her star power has also been muddled and, during the trial, most people on social media were siding with Depp and mocked her testimony as they called her a liar.

A sit-down interview with Heard is set to air this Friday on NBC which will be her first time to publicly speak out about her experience in the trial. She is expected to discuss how she believes the verdict could affect free speech in America and the other women coming out to talk about domestic abuse, her POV on the spectacle of the trial, and the differences between the libel case that Depp lost in the UK and the recent legal between them in the US.

For now, despite the controversies, rumors, and petitions from fans, Heard is still part of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and will continue on the role of Mera which she previously played in Justice League, Aquaman, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The upcoming sequel finished production earlier this year and is currently in post-production.
